With summer comes an increase in Southern California adventurers seeking outdoor activities. For many, this may include riding ATVs on private property, permitted public trails or at specialized facilities. With this rise in ATV riding in the summer, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission wishes to warn both novice and experienced riders of the risk of serious injuries that come with these vehicles.
Car accidents that occur in heavily populated areas, such as downtown areas in large cities like Los Angeles, can affect many individuals due to the congestion of both vehicles and pedestrians. The potential for serious injuries from a car accident may be increased in highly populated areas like LA. Though it may not heal the wounds or loss of life that can result from this type of car accident, victims may find some solace in their right to seek punitive damages.
When we think of car or truck accidents, we rarely think of emergency vehicles. They are on the roads to help save people, right? However, they are not immune to the car accidents that can plague our streets and may sometimes result in more serious injuries if traveling at high rates of speed.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has found that each year, back-over vehicle accidents cause an average of 228 deaths, and 17,000 injuries. Sadly, a significant number of the people killed or injured in this sort of car accident are young children. However, California residents may be interested to know that safety advocates say that these accidents can be significantly prevented by the addition of required rear-view camera systems to vehicles.
