California drivers known how important it is to drive safely and obey all traffic laws. Yet, while this will do a lot to prevent a car accident, there is no telling what other drivers on the road will do. It is not always possible to avoid a serious accident, and when an individual suffers an injury at the fault of another driver, the effects can be devastating.
In our last post we covered a Koreatown pedestrian accident which resulted in the wrongful death of a 42-year-old man last weekend. Unfortunately hit-and-run accidents such as this one are not a rare occurrence in the Los Angeles area. Irresponsible motorists who cause crashes while intoxicated or engaging in distracted driving often flee the scene because they fear criminal punishment or personal injury litigation.
In automobile accidents involving motorcycles, it is not always the collision of two vehicles that causes a serious injury or a death. One recent California motorcycle accident, for example, occurred when the motorcyclist lost control of her vehicle and crashed. She was thrown onto the highway where she was then struck by a pickup truck that fled the scene.

The Los Angeles Times reports that the L.A. City Council recently voted to pay the largest traffic accident-related wrongful death settlement in the city's history. The city is set to pay $6.6 million to the family of 27-year-old woman who was killed just outside of her Sylmar home in spring of 2010.
A Los Angeles teen was arrested yesterday morning after a severe car crash in downtown Long Beach. Authorities say that the accident happened at shortly before 1 a.m. on Monday on the 710 Freeway. An 18-year-old Los Angeles woman was allegedly driving her vehicle while intoxicated and caused an accident that killed her 19-year-old passenger.
Car accidents that occur in heavily populated areas, such as downtown areas in large cities like Los Angeles, can affect many individuals due to the congestion of both vehicles and pedestrians. The potential for serious injuries from a car accident may be increased in highly populated areas like LA. Though it may not heal the wounds or loss of life that can result from this type of car accident, victims may find some solace in their right to seek punitive damages.
Authorities recently charged a 37-year-old woman with murder for causing a severe pedestrian accident that resulted in the wrongful death of two pedestrians.
The California Highway Patrol was still investigating on June 9 a fatal motorcycle accident that had occurred the day before involving several Navy personnel. The motorcycle accident resulted in one death and minor injuries to four individuals. The investigation is presumably ongoing, and police have not disclosed what party or parties may have been at fault in the accident.
At least one woman was critically injured after a series of car accidents yesterday morning in Valley Glen. The pileup happened around 7:30 a.m. at the intersection of Victory Boulevard and Whitsett Avenue. A Valley Traffic Division officer said that the accidents seemed to have been triggered when a man with a history of seizures began driving the wrong way on the road.
