Your children's cough syrup may be contaminated with a dangerous bacterium. A nationwide recall has been issued for Kingston Pharma's NATURALS Cough Syrup + Mucus for babies. Due to the contaminants, it has the potential to cause life-threatening illnesses.
The FDA found that one in ten bottles of this product had low levels of Bacillus cereus and two in ten bottles had low levels of Bacillus circulans.
Symptoms to look for in your child
Cough syrup is supposed to ease your child's chest pain and alleviate an irritating cough. These infectious bacteria can cause potentially life-threatening symptoms including:
- Painful stomach cramps
Babies, infants and toddlers are especially vulnerable to severe forms of these symptoms. With limited communication abilities, their symptoms might go unnoticed or be confused with other common ailments.
If your child develops these symptoms, encourage them to drink plenty of fluids. If they become dehydrated, seek medical attention.
