Be Amazing! Toys has once again found itself at the center of a huge recall after realizing that one of its products could pose a safety risk to children across the nation. Parents may remember a July recall which we reported on involving water-absorbing polymer balls that, if ingested, could expand in a child’s intestine and potentially cause injury. Once again, the company has issued another recall just in time to scare parents for Halloween.
This unsafe children’s toy is similar to the water-absorbing polymer balls in the fact that it grows in size when introduced to fluids. The specific toy detailed in the most recall is the Weird Science Growing Spider toy sets, which contain one polymer spider and three "spider eggs." They are brightly colored and could easily be mistaken as candy by children.
Although the packaging for the toy sets do advise parents to not let their children play with the toys without supervision, the packaging does not explain the danger that this toy could present to children. As readers of our blog can imagine, this absence of information could leave the company open to liability claims, especially if a child becomes injured from this product.
The toy sets were sold nationwide at Target stores September to November 2012, Spirit Halloween stores from August 2011 to August 2012, and most recently at Cracker Barrel Old Country Stores for the last two years. All consumers are encouraged to return the product immediately as it does pose a danger to small children if swallowed.
