Woman Injured in Valley Glen Multi-Car Crash

At least one woman was critically injured after a series of car accidents yesterday morning in Valley Glen. The pileup happened around 7:30 a.m. at the intersection of Victory Boulevard and Whitsett Avenue. A Valley Traffic Division officer said that the accidents seemed to have been triggered when a man with a history of seizures began driving the wrong way on the road.

"He was driving against the flow of traffic, and that's when he crashed into vehicle No. 2 -- driving westbound, head on," the officer said. "Then they spun out and crashed into several stopped cars on Whitsett."

The man who caused the accidents was examined by firefighters and did not appear to be suffering from a seizure. The man did not remember swerving head-on into traffic however and appeared to have only become conscious after the crash.

Two men suffered minor injuries and were transported to Holy Cross Medical Center along with the critically injured woman.

"A woman was briefly trapped in her white sedan," a Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman said. "Firefighters used hydraulic prying tools to free the badly trapped woman, and rush her to an area trauma center."

It is unclear whether the seizure-prone man will face criminal charges in connection with this crash.
