Howard B. Miller served in 2009-2010 as the 85th President of the State Bar of California.

He also is a former Professor of Law at the University of Southern California. In his current practice he works in the areas of patent, copyright and other intellectual property litigation, anti-trust, and general complex commercial litigation. Among his many successful cases, his patent cases have included outstanding results in technologies as different as cancer radiation therapy and GPS location technology for cell phones.

He successfully argued one of the most important recent U.S. intellectual property cases, Montz v. Pilgrims Films and NBC Universal, 649 F.3d 975, (9th Circ., 2011), Cert Denied, 181 L.Ed. 2d 410 (2011)  His en banc oral argument before the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit can be viewed on YouTube at “Montz v. He also is a Fellow of The Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (FCIArb)  and heads the firm’s International Dispute Resolution Practice.  He lectures and speaks frequently on international legal issues, most recently in Beijing, Seoul, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Ulan Bataar, Washington, Toronto, London, and Berlin.
