It was a bit shocking for authorities to find that a hit-and-run suspect set to stand trial was revealed as the mother of a carjacker that went on a killing spree which ended in Orange County.
This was recently found once the accused woman was charged with causing an accident that injured a mother along with her small children. Authorities state that the suspect fled from what was deemed a hit-and-run accident case.
With up to four years in prison hovering over her, the Ladera Ranch woman was charged with multiple charges, based in particular on the fact she fled without offering assistance to the victims. The accident occurred in 2011.
The woman's ordeal occurred when her SUV collided with a Honda Accord, in which a woman and her children, ages 9 and 4, were traveling. The accident severely injured the 4-year-old.
Court documents state the accident happened along the 405 freeway close to Irvine Center Drive. The woman sped away from the collision, which had caused the Honda to spin out of control.
In the aftermath of the accident, the 4-year-old girl has had multiple surgeries to her jaw, eye sockets and nose. After a two month investigation, detectives arrested the woman.
Everyone, including the defendant, are seriously affected in accidents such as these. Not only is the woman facing possible jail time, fines and other penalties, those injured in the tragic accident could end up filing a personal injury lawsuit against her for compensation for medical expenses, pain and suffering and other damages.
