Distracted driving poses a significant danger in many different contexts. One area in which the consequences of a moment's distraction are especially severe is the trucking industry. Truckers spend most of their time on the road and, for many, the temptation to pass the time by texting or surfing the web is too strong.
A company called Cellcontrol is set to start selling a new product that could help keep truckers off of their phones. The device creates a dead-zone in the driver's side seat of any vehicle. While a phone is inside the zone, the driver will not be able to use it. Other passengers in the same vehicle, in the meantime, can use mobile devices without interference.
Cellcontrol's device includes another important feature. The product can also track how drivers are trying to use their phones. This function could help parents teach teenager drivers to avoid dangerous habits.
With distracted driving becoming more common and few legislative solutions in sight, products like this could be an important way to start reducing phone-related car accidents in the future.
